Or at least not as bad as this video at Shakesville. What saddens me most about this pageant is that I hear intelligent commentary on social issues from teenage women all the time — at debate tournaments. If Miss Teen USA 2007 wanted to actually be scholarship focussed they could do away with the softcore porn aspect of their program and recruit from the female geek set. It’s not even like the program would violate hollywood beauty standards, since — surprise! — smart women also occur all along your 0-10 scale.

And I like to think that if that pageant existed and Miss Illinois “gave a splendidly mature and nuanced answer to a question about global warming” we would pass it around and link to it, just like we do with other topical arguments. Towards that end, my plan was to post a video of some brilliant teenager analysis on global warming, but I got tired of looking for the right video.

Instead, here’s the funniest duo performance ever, The Five Minute Illiad:
